KABUL, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Afghan police have foiled attempts to traffic a consignment of drugs out of the country via northern Kunduz province and arrested two alleged drug smugglers, provincial police spokesman Jumadin Khaksar said Wednesday.
The arrested individuals were going to smuggle 33 kg of hashish via Shir Khan Bandar port from Kunduz to neighboring Tajikistan on Tuesday evening, but police identified and detained them, Khaksar said.
Both the arrested men would be referred to the judiciary for further investigation, the official added.
In the drive against illegal drugs, police also reported torching 13 tons of drugs in southern Kandahar province over the past year as part of efforts to get the once-poppy-growing country rid of the drug menace. ■
