VIENTIANE, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- The handover ceremony for the China-aided Oudomxay Vocational Skills Development Center was held in northern Laos' Oudomxay province, marking a significant symbol of the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Laos and China.
The event, held on Sept. 26, was attended by Lao Minister of Labor and Social Welfare Phoxay Sayasone, Governor of Oudomxay province Bounkhong Lachiemphone, permanent vice president of the Lao-China cooperation committee under the Lao Ministry of Finance Sengdeuane Sayasone, Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Laos Li Xizhen, along with other distinguished Lao and Chinese guests. The attendees jointly participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially inaugurate the project.
In his remarks, Phoxay expressed gratitude to China for its support. "This modern vocational training center stands as a testament to the strong friendship and cooperation between Laos and China," he said. "It will play a crucial role in developing a skilled workforce, supporting the country's social and economic progress."
Bounkhong highlighted the broader impact of the project, stating that it would not only offer valuable training opportunities for workers in Oudomxay province and surrounding northern regions but also help upgrade the local industrial structure and contribute to poverty reduction efforts.
Li noted that the Oudomxay center is one of 10 vocational schools being constructed in Laos with Chinese assistance. He emphasized that the project reflects the successful implementation of the strategic vision outlined by the leaders of both countries.
The center includes teaching and administrative buildings, training workshops, dormitories for students and teachers, canteens, and supporting infrastructure. Construction began in December 2023 and was completed in July 2025 after passing final inspections. ■
