COLOMBO, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan customs generated more than 1.2 trillion rupees (about 4 billion U.S. dollars) in revenue during the first seven months of 2025, an official said Saturday.

According to Sri Lanka Customs spokesperson Seevali Arukgoda, customs earned 231 billion rupees (about 770 million dollars) in July, the highest monthly revenue on record, primarily from taxes on vehicle imports.

Arukgoda said customs brought in nearly 300 billion rupees (around 1 billion dollars) by taxing more than 28,000 imported vehicles.

The government set a revenue target of 2.115 trillion rupees for customs this year. So far, the department has exceeded its scheduled collections by 116 billion rupees, Arukgoda added. (1 Sri Lankan rupee equals 0.0033 U.S. dollars) ■
