ANKARA, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Türkiye detained 26 suspected members of the Islamic State (IS) group in coordinated gendarmerie operations across 14 provinces, including Ankara and Istanbul, the country's Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said Saturday.
The detainees are accused of spreading terrorist propaganda via social media platforms, and financing so-called aid organizations affiliated with the IS, Yerlikaya said in a statement on social media platform X.
Many organizational documents and digital materials were also seized during the operations, he said, without specifying the time frame of the operations.
"Our fight against terrorism is not limited to field operations by law enforcement," he said. "It is a multi-dimensional state response encompassing security, intelligence, communication, and international cooperation."
Türkiye designated the IS as a terrorist organization in 2013, blaming it for a series of deadly attacks in the country. Since then, it has carried out counter-terrorism operations both domestically and abroad to crack down on its members and activities. ■
